Stella Kramer is a multi-award winning photo editor who has worked in the New York publishing industry for more than 15 years. She was part of the photo team at The New York Times that won the 2002 Pulitzer Prize for Breaking News Photography, the 2002 Pulitzer Prize for Public Service in recognition of the Portraits of Grief which ran after September 11th, and a 2002 Infinity Award for Public Service from the International Center of Photography. She has worked at The New York Times, People, Entertainment Weekly, Sports Illustrated, Newsweek, MONEY, and Brill's Content, where she was the director of photography.

In a city with more magazines than you can count, how does one put together the strongest portfolio to land freelance work? And how do you go about getting your portfolio to the people who can hire you?

In this one-night portfolio review session, limited to 12 students, you'll have a chance to have your book critiqued and edited as much as necessary to create a tight, well-paced representation of you. Veteran magazine photo editor Stella Kramer will help focus and direct you toward the best places to make your pitch for work.

You will pick up important tips, a fresh eye, and a new perspective on your own work. You will also understand how to edit yourself, how to seek advice from friends and family, and what photo editors are looking for when they review portfolios.

Admission Requirements:

HTML is the essential language of the Web. Using a simple system of "tags", HTML describes to browsers the structure and appearance of web pages. THough everyone who wants to work in interactive media should understand HTML, you don't need to have a programming background to learn it.

In this course, you will learn the basic structure of HTML and many of the most commonly used tags to create fully functional web pages with images and hyperlinks. You'll learn how to work with Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) and XHTML.

Just because Final Cut Pro is the standard for professional video editing doesn't mean a you can't master the basics in a weekend. In this two-day hands-on course, you'll learn how to perform basic editing functions in a fun, friendly classroom just for media professionals.

Topics include basic setup, adjusting and customizing preferences and settings, capturing video and audio, organizing your media, editing and trimming techniques, audio editing and audio creation, finishing, and final output. You'll also learn what kind of Mac to use to get the most out of Final Cut Pro.

Each student will work on a Mac computer fully loaded with the latest version of Final Cut Pro (version 7) and sample media.

By the end of the class you will have:
The ability to edit and encode video using Final Cut Pro and Quicktime. You will get hands-on experience on a Mac and you will come away with real skills in non-linear, random access video editing from capturing to outputting.
