Nook “Outshipping” Kindle, Analyst Says

In March, 53 percent of the eReaders shipped to US vendors were Nooks, according to a Digitimes Research analyst. This beats out Kindle’s March shipments, according to the analyst, Mingchi Kuo. He based this figure on information from upstream suppliers, though that means the numbers aren’t definitive.

Kuo attributed the strong shipments to the fact that the Nook is a newer device than the Kindle, and to the fact that Barnes & Noble is selling the Nook in its retails stores. Amazon just brought the Kindle into select Target stores last weekend, so it’s lagging behind there.

Of course, Nooks shipped to vendors does not mean Nooks bought by customers.
