As expected, Samsung released the Galaxy Tablet at the IFA trade show in Berlin today. The new Android-based tablet will compete directly with Apple’s iPad. It has a 7-inch color touch screen and includes multimedia applications. Users can use the device to read, watch videos, listen to music, browse the Internet and send SMS messages.

It comes loaded the “Readers Hub” app, which is powered by Kobo. Kobo supports ePub, PDF and Adobe DRM files.

This marks Samsung’s move into the tablet world, and there may be more to come. JK Shin, President and Head of Mobile Communications Business, Samsung Electronics had this statement: “The Samsung GALAXY Tab has been designed to enable consumers to maximize their online experience wherever that may be. The Samsung GALAXY Tab is pushing the market in new directions and Samsung believes this is only the beginning of its innovations as pioneers in smart media devices.”
