DESCRIPTION:Medicine in the Media: The Challenges of Reporting on Medical Research, presented by the Office of Disease Prevention at the National Institutes of Health.\n\nThis years course, to be held October 1417, 2012 at the Bolger Center in Potomac, MD, is open to bloggers, reporters, and editors who provide the general public with news stories about health and health care via print, broadcast, or online media. While participants should be eager to enhance their skills in medical science reporting, they need not have extensive experience or a background in medical journalism. The course will teach attendees to: \n\nInterpret and evaluate research findings, including statistics; \n\nSelect stories that hold meaningful messages for the public; and\n\nPlace stories in their appropriate context.\n\nThe deadline to apply is June 1, 2012, at 5 p.m. ET.
