Superstorm Sandy's Impace on NYC Communications Pros: Free Public Service Webinar Featuring Crisis Case Studies
Nov 30, 2012, 11:30AM to 12:30PM
New York, NY
|Details||SUMMARY: BDI, Edelman, JetBlue and Critical Mention are pleased to provide the Tri-State communications & marketing communities a free public service webinar that will share the crisis communications lessons learned from Superstorm Sandy. There are no commercial sponsors for this program. Our objective is to simply share information for the benefit of our collective communities and showcase what these different organizations learned from a crisis communications perspective.
Edelman used a closed, employee-only Facebook page and the Muse Hotel to keep staff connected, provide a place to work, and execute against client programs not impacted by the storm. Richard Edelman blogged about the effort and U.S. CEO Mark Hass will join this webinar to describe how his team excelled during the crisis.
While LaGuardia Airport’s jetways were virtual diving boards into a greatly expanded Flushing Bay, JetBlue was helping the New York community by dispatching fully stocked food trucks to neighborhoods that had lost electricity -- serving 20,000 free meals to storm victims! Jenny Dervin, VP of Communications, will share her thoughts on how JetBlue weathered the storm.
Critical Mention’s data center at 75 Broad Street was severely flooded and without power for two weeks. Their backup platform was up and running in the cloud after a few days and most subscribers were benevolent –accepting Critical Mention’s offer to donate to a Sandy charity rather than taking a free month’s service for the outage. President Dave Armon will relate the challenge of communicating bad news while managing expectations of a service restoration.
While Business Development Institute’s offices located in the heart of the financial district were closed and without power, they kept operations running through the use of cloud-based software for their event registration platform, email, payroll, social networks, and other systems. CEO Steve Etzler will talk about business continuity.
