Details On May 1st, Literacy Partners will host the 29th Annual Evening of Readings and Gala Dinner Dance, to raise critical funds to aid in their mission to end illiteracy, one adult at time. Held at New York’s Cipriani 42nd Street, the black tie event will be hosted by Gala Board Chair Alina Cho, CNN National Correspondent and Honorary Board Chair Liz Smith.

The gala will honor #1 New York Times bestselling author Patricia Cornwell, and writer and director Tatiana von Fürstenberg for their devoted work in education and philanthropy. In honor of her many dedicated years to Literacy Partners’ mission, Jacqueline Weld Drake will receive the venerated Lizzie Award. The Lizzie Award is given to an individual who exemplifies Liz Smith’s passion for the written word and her commitment to improving the lives of those who cannot read or write. The evening will also include readings from Fox News television host and bestselling author Bill O'Reilly, Pulitzer-prize winning author and Random House executive editor Jonathan Meacham, and Pulitzer-prize winning author Elizabeth Strout. The esteemed panel will be joined by two Literacy Partners students, who will share their powerful stories of overcoming adversity and achieving their goals.

Literacy Partners has provided critical literacy services to over 25,000 New York City adults and their families since its inception almost 40 years ago. Adult learners are enrolled in reading and writing classes, that are complemented by financial, health and digital literacy workshops. With more than two million adult New Yorkers still struggling to read and write English at the 8th grade level, there is much work left to be done. Literacy Partners believes that the ability to read is an essential element of an enriched and fulfilling life. The organization provides high-quality, community-based literacy programs in that empower adults to reach their full potential as individuals, parents, and citizens.
