"I do think that the quality which makes a man want to write and be read is essentially a desire for self-exposure and is masochistic. Like one of those guys who has a compulsion to take his thing out and show it on the street." - James Jones

Dan Reilly: The FishbowlDC Interview

danreilly1.jpg Say hello to the Politico's Dan Reilly.

How many suits do you own? Including my birthday suit? Three.

What word do you routinely misspell? ocassionallly

Did you see Brokeback Mountain? Loved it.

Did you see The Da Vinci Code? Hasn't this question jumped the shark? If you are going to ask me about random movies, why not Tron? Yes, I saw Tron and loved it.

What's the name of your cell phone ring? Calypso.

What time did you get up this morning? At 7:14am, I groaned and rolled over and my finance said in perfect pitch, "sounds like someone has a case of the Mondays," thus proving that even half asleep, she is absolutely hilarious.

When did you last cry and why? As a huge Chicago Bears fan, I must admit that I got a little misty-eyed after Hurricane Rex threw his final interception in the Super Bowl. Stupid Rex.

Which of the seven deadly sins are you? Sloth love Chunk.

Beach, city or country? Take me home, country roads.

Would you say you're cute? Pretty? Hot? Beautiful? I am beautiful, no matter what they say. Words can't bring me down.

Read the rest when you click below...(and see previous FishbowlDC interviews: Julie Mason, David Shuster, Joe Curl, Alex Pareene, Peter Beinart, Jonah Goldberg, Megyn Kendall, Ana Marie Cox, Jim Brady, Howard Mortman, Amy Argetsinger, Jose Antonio Vargas, Chuck Todd, Tom Gottlieb, Kelly Ann Collins, David von Drehle, David Lat, Mark Leibovich, Zain Verjee, David Plotz, Paul Kane, Karen Travers, Mark Halperin, Hugo Gurdon, Greg Kelly,Ken Rudin, John Dickerson, Anne Schroeder, Spencer Ackerman, Bret Baier, Bob Sellers, Greta van Susteren, Danielle Jones, Jonathan Salant, John McCalla, Pam Hess, Ryan Grim, Marc Ambinder, Marty Kady, Jack Shafer, Annie Lou Bayly, Jerry Zremski, Charlie Cook, Dave Hughes, Howard Fineman, Katie Tarbox, Mark Segraves, Chris Cillizza, Tom Sietsema, Bill Triplett, Robin Givhan, David Brody, Norah O'Donnell, Carl Cannon, Jordan Lieberman, David Folkenflik, Molly Henneberg, Ernesto Londono, Brody Mullins, Aaron Blake, Martha Raddatz, Andrew Sullivan, Christina Bellantoni, Shane Harris, Nora McAlvanah, Adam Nagourney, Erin McPike, Mike Memoli, Ju-Don Marshall Roberts, Arthur Delaney, Chris Mincher, Rachel Sklar, Laura Sullivan, Jeff Kosseff, Matthew Cooper, Scott McCrary)

What color is your bathroom? Blue-ish.

How many emails do you receive a day, roughly? Between 70 and 90, depending on what kind of mood my bosses are in.

What's your opinion of New York City? With the exception of Williamsburg, I am a huge fan.

What's your favorite letter? W. (And before any other blogs accuse The Politico of right wing bias, it's for my grandfather not that other Dubya)

What single person played the biggest role / had the biggest influence on your journalism career? My old boss, Craig Gilbert, DC Bureau Chief for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, taught me a lot of lessons about this business, none more valuable than the one about not asking Jim Sensenbrenner for an interview in the hallway. And at the risk of sounding like a total brown noser, John Harris and Jim VandeHei have taught me a lot in a short amount of time.

Have you ever downloaded a podcast? If so, which one? All the time. The Ricky Gervais Show and the DJ Coldcut podcast are my faves.

Who's your all-time favorite American Idol candidate? The one with the ability to make the show go away.

When's the last time you volunteered? Where? Does hanging out with John Bresnahan count as community service? If not, it has been far too long and that is inexcusable.

Who is your favorite active journalist? I want to be Ken Auletta when I grow up.

What did you have for breakfast? VandeHei always says I eat like a five year old, and today's breakfast--a cereal bar and a juice box--would seem to confirm this.

What's your favorite item of clothing? My Thierry Henry Arsenal jersey, purchased in London after their last premiership title. Gooooooners!

What one toiletry item could you not live without? Toothbrush.

If you could have one superpower, which one would it be? The power to go back in time and prevent myself from asking stupid questions at gaggles.

Better role model: GIJoe? Barbie? GI Joe taught me that freedom isn’t free. It costs $1.23.
