President Bush: "Well, we had some bad news this weekend. Our good friend Tony Snow passed away. Tony, you know, worked with us and made a lot of friends here in the White House, and Laura and I are -- we're really saddened by his death. I came to know Tony as a very smart and capable man. He had good values. He was an honest guy. You know, he had a wonderful sense of humor. He loved to laugh, he loved his country, and he loved his family. And our thoughts are with Jill and the three children now as they deal with their grief. We went to church this morning at Camp David and I prayed for Jill and the family, that they would have -- find comfort and strength during this tough time for them. And I just hope they understand that Tony was loved here in the White House, and a lot of those who, you know, got to know him really do care about Jill and the kids."

Vice President Dick Cheney
: "Well, he was a major player in the conservative movement, and the way I think of Tony is he's unique in terms of the extent to which he knew the news side of the business; then as a commentator and -- but also somebody who worked as part of the White House staff as a speechwriter and of course as press secretary."

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi: "Tony Snow always showed the kindness of his Midwestern American roots. Whether from the anchor desk at Fox News or behind the podium in the White House press room, Tony showed a deep passion for his beliefs and a remarkable ability to connect with the American people. Even through his courageous battle with cancer, Tony Snow showed us how to live life: with strength, determination, and with a brave and smiling face. To Tony Snow's colleagues and friends at the White House and at Fox News, I offer my deepest sympathies. As Speaker of the House, I offer condolences to Tony's wife, Jill, and their three children, Kendall, Robbie and Kristi on behalf of all of our colleagues. I hope it is some comfort that so many throughout America and the world are thinking of them and praying for them in this difficult time."

House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer
: "Tony Snow cared deeply about our nation, and he served it well in both public service and journalism. He had a passion for politics and policy, but showed it is possible to disagree on the issues without being disagreeable. I would like to express my condolences to the Snow family."

House Minority Leader John Boehner: "Churchill said, 'I like a man who grins when he fights' and that was Tony Snow. For 35 years, as a writer, broadcaster, and spokesman, he fought fiercely for what he believed in, and he did it with a smile on his face and a twinkle in his eye. His loss is a loss for our country. His newspaper columns and television and radio shows illuminated issues with grace and humor and solid insight. He served twice in government, distinguishing himself as a speechwriter in President George H.W. Bush's White House and as a spokesman for the current President. Despite everything Tony did and achieved in life, he never forgot his hometown roots or those who grew up with him. He was a proud son of Cincinnati, and I will miss him. My thoughts and prayers are with his wife Jill, and their three children."

Sen. John McCain: "Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of Tony Snow. He was a loving father, husband, friend and truly one of America's most gifted commentators. Whether he sat behind a radio mic or stood behind a White House podium, Tony Snow always sought to give the American people new insights into our government, political process and leaders. He asked the tough questions and took them as well. Even when diagnosed with cancer, his fight served as an inspiration to all Americans. In the coming days, we will celebrate the life of a truly great and generous man."

House Minority Whip Roy Blount: "Tony was a man of unique talent and extraordinary character -- a determined spokesman, a dogged conservative, and a dedicated husband and father. His influence on the political dialogue of this country was as remarkable as it was pervasive -- but at no time did Tony ever perspective on what was truly important in his life, and at no point did he ever lose the famous sense of humor and wit which accompanied that perspective. Today I join Americans from all walks of life, and of all political
backgrounds, in sending our prayers and condolences to Tony's wife Jill and their three children."

Rep. Joe Wilson, R-S.C.
: "Tony Snow was a gentleman who brought an unmatched enthusiasm and love to everything he did. He understood the importance and power of honesty and humor whether it be as a writer, commentator, or public servant. Throughout all his accomplishments, his wit and professionalism defined his character and his career. At this time of loss, our thoughts and prayers are with his wife, Jill, and their three children."

Rush Limbaugh: "He had a joyful way of looking at the world. He believed in America. He believed in himself and his family. He believed in God. Those were the traditions and institutions he supported, and nobody did it better."

Sylvia Smith, President, National Press Club: "Tony Snow was a respected colleague to many in the National Press Club, and we mark his death with regret. Our deepest sympathy goes to his family. He was taken from us far too soon."

Brian Williams, NBC News: "When I lost my own Sister to breast cancer, Tony was among the first to contact me to offer comfort. He faced his own struggle with the bravery of an infantryman. He was a rare combination of true believer and honest broker -- and that is why the death of this humane, beloved young man has been greeted with such widespread sadness."

Michael Steele, GOPAC Chairman
: "Today we mourn the loss of a dear friend, Tony Snow. A consummate professional, a respected voice in journalism, Tony was a one of the "good ones". To his family, friends and colleagues we offer our prayers and condolences, and thank God for giving us 53 good years with Tony. On a personal note, I shed a tear of joy for having known him and tears of sorrow for his passing. God bless you my friend."

Gloria Borger: "Tony Snow was wonderful because he could disagree with you without being disagreeable. I know that's a cliche, but it's true. So smart, so engaging. And one of his talents was listening. That's why he was such a good host of the Sunday show. He was such a good listener. And he was able to respond to you by just taking apart your argument. And he did it so well, but always with a generous nature. And he was one of the kindest, most caring people. Of anybody you know was ill, Tony Snow would be the first person to inquire about it."

Jessica Yellin: "He had a real sense in the debate and the exchange. He came in at a time when the press was enormously frustrated, feeling cut out and he really engaged everybody. He didn't always give you the answer. He was very good at changing the topic. But I'll tell you one thing, the minute he came, people started to expand their vocabulary. They would walk out of that press briefing room asking, what did that word mean and they'd look it up? He raised everyone's game."
