"I do think that the quality which makes a man want to write and be read is essentially a desire for self-exposure and is masochistic. Like one of those guys who has a compulsion to take his thing out and show it on the street." - James Jones

An Era Ends -- But Does A New One Begin?

Jason Binn's new de-luxe Capitol File Magazine today announced its top leadership: AOL CityGuide's Managing Editor Kate Gibbs will be editor-in-chief and, as previously heard, Gossip Guru Anne Schroeder will be executive editor.

"Both of these dynamos are Beltway insiders with top-tier Rolodexes, superb editing and management skills, and a terrific knowledge of what the community craves. These two women share a witty, wonderful, and sometimes irreverent point of view that is directly in line with the Niche Media vision," Niche Media's Editorial Director Jason Oliver Nixon said.

Prior to heading up the AOL City Guides, E-i-C Gibbs worked as a "local entertainment expert" on WTOP and Z104 radio stations and was editor of washingtonpost.com's "Entertainment Guide."

In a sucker-punch to the gut of everyone in D.C. who cares about gossip--or at least what passes for gossip in this city--Anne Schroeder will be leaving the Post on Friday, tossing aside Names & Faces and her contributing byline on the Reliable Source, leaving Richard Leiby to solo on three columns next week before he abandons the Source himself.

What, oh, what will the Post do? Will they even bother to publish a C3 page?

NICHE MEDIA EDITORIAL DIRECTOR JASON OLIVER NIXON TAPS KATE GIBBS AND ANNE SCHROEDER AS TOP EDITORS OF CAPITOL FILE MAGAZINE

New York, New York (May 9, 2005) - Bringing together two of Washington, DC's brightest talents, Niche Media Editorial Director Jason Oliver Nixon and CEO Jason Binn have tapped AOL CityGuide's Managing Editor Kate Gibbs as editor in chief and Anne Schroeder, who, for almost three years, was an integral part of the must-read "Reliable Source" column at The Washington Post, as executive editor of Capitol File magazine, a high-end luxury lifestyle publication slated to launch September 2005.

"I am thrilled to have Kate Gibbs and Anne Schroeder join Niche Media to head up the editorial content of Capitol File magazine," says Nixon. "Both of these dynamos are Beltway insiders with top-tier Rolodexes, superb editing and management skills, and a terrific knowledge of what the community craves. These two women share a witty, wonderful, and sometimes irreverent point of view that is directly in line with the Niche Media vision."

Editor in Chief Kate Gibbs arrives from AOL CityGuide, where, as managing editor, she oversaw nine encyclopedic guides. Off-line, Gibbs displayed her charming style as a local entertainment expert on WTOP and Z104 radio stations. Prior to her tenure at AOL CityGuide, Gibbs was editor of washingtonpost.com's "Entertainment Guide." She previously worked at the Smithsonian Institution. "Capitol File is an extremely exciting move for me. The magazine will be a revealing insider's look at Washington's sophistication and intelligence, its treasures and its secrets," says Gibbs.

Executive Editor Anne Schroeder brings her savvy access from The Washington Post's boldfaced "Names & Faces" where, filing daily, Schroeder mixed and worked closely with "Reliable Source's" Richard Leiby and his predecessor Lloyd Grove, now with the New York Daily News. Prior to joining The Washington Post, Schroeder oversaw the highly-praised "Green Room" at CNN's Washington, DC, bureau, catering to the nation's most glamorous and powerful personalities. Says Schroeder, "I look forward to going from Washington's must-read column to the city's new must-read magazine."

Niche Media LLC is the country's preeminent regional magazine group catering to the high-end luxury market through its distinct publications, including Hamptons, Gotham, Los Angeles Confidential, and Aspen Peak. Capitol File and Boston Commonwealth, the two latest Niche Media publications, will debut in September 2005. Remaining consistent with the company's formula, the new magazines will target affluent readers by celebrating the worlds of high-end retail, interior design, fine dining, entertainment, exclusive real estate, culture, and nightlife in each city. These quarterly magazines will have an ABC audited, controlled circulation of 70,000, and will be distributed via several channels to the region's most affluent consumers.
