The Tapper Touch: 1 Subject Line = Slew of HeadlinesYou've likely seen the stories flying around today about ABC's Jake Tapper and his emails to Governor Mark Sanford's communications director, Joel Sawyer the day before the Governor announced his affair. They were published by The State newspaper in South Carolina. Here are the cliffs notes: One email had a subject line: "NBC spot was slimy." The body stated "For the record, I think the TODAY show spot was pretty insulting..." In another email he forwarded a tweet from MTP's David Gregory: U should be concerned when "your wife" says that she doesn't know where you are but isn't concerned That's it. But that forwarded tweet and one line email has triggered a frenzy of blog posts. Here are just a few: HuffPo twisted Tapper's email subject line (NBC spot was slimy) into a more scandalous headline: "Jake Tapper Called NBC "Slimy" In E-Mail To Mark Sanford's Office" Our sister, TVNewser: What's Jake Got Against NBC News Media Matters: ABC's Jake Tapper was "carrying some water when he emailed Mark Sanford's office and complained about NBC's "slimy coverage" Politico's Michael Calderone was the only blogger that I found to offer anything more than my cliffs notes: And Tapper responded in an email to POLITICO: And at the end of the day, I ask "so what?" A reporter buttered up a source by bashing a competitive network... ABC's WH correspondent has (shhh) opinions and analyzes his competitor's coverage... Jake Tapper is an expert copy and paster... And Jake, "for the record" I guarantee anyone reading this post has said or done a lot more for a lot less. I give it a "meh" on a scale of "meh" to "mer." Email This Post |
