NEWSPAPERS | TV | ONLINE | NEWS NOTES | WEST WING REPORTAGE | JOBS

NEWSPAPERS

NYP: fter months of bitter negotiations, empty threats and bad publicity, The Boston Globe and its largest union are ready for a do-over. The Boston Newspaper Guild and The New York Times Co. are close to a deal that would be similar to the proposal workers rejected just a couple of weeks ago.

Gannett could go bankrupt by June 2011.

TV

How coverage of the election in Iran online has sparked a "TV news revolution," from B&C.

In memoriam: Ed McMahon died early today at a hospital in Westwood. He was 86. More from the LATimes.

ONLINE

Also from E&P, how newsrooms are adapting to Twitter.

HuffPost launched local sites in New York and Denver.

ABC News head of digital operations Paul Slavin spoke with Beet.TV last week about the difficulties of newsgathering in Iran, and this was before the government there tightened its rules regarding foreign journalists. Check out his interview here.

NEWS NOTES

CSM asks where have all the state capitol bloggers gone? "The number of full-time reporters in American state capitols has decreased 32 percent in the past six years, according to a study released last April by the American Journalism Review. Over 140 newspapers have reduced their statehouse staffs since 2003, and more than 50 have eliminated these staffs altogether."

WEST WING REPORTAGE

Howard Kurtz in WaPo: "Perhaps no White House chief of staff in modern history has worked the media as aggressively and relentlessly as Rahm Emanuel. Drawing on his long-standing relationships with journalists, Emanuel serves up on-the-record quotes, background spin, and the sort of capital gossip that lubricates relationships."
