"I do think that the quality which makes a man want to write and be read is essentially a desire for self-exposure and is masochistic. Like one of those guys who has a compulsion to take his thing out and show it on the street." - James Jones

PROM: Post-Prom Buzz-o-Meter

Earlier, we ranked the pre-Prom buzz for all the weekend's various events. So, how did they stack up? Find out after the jump...

WHAT: People magazine party
WHEN: Friday night
WHERE: Park & 14th
HOT: This is the only party all weekend where you may not have rolled your eyes upon seeing Tim Daly. Richard Schiff poking fun at Rob Lowe and Gov. Spitzer was priceless. Awesome swag bags.
NOT: Pretty low celebrity quotient.

POST-RATING:

WHAT: Tammy Haddad's "Garden Brunch" (co-hosts: Ted Greenberg, Hilary Rosen, Alex Castellanos, Debbie Dingell, David Adler, Kathyrn Leyman and Beth Viola)
WHEN: Saturday afternoon
WHERE: Her Palisades home
HOT: Rosario Dawson and watching Tammy Haddad and Jason Binn wrestle over her. The fact that Chris Matthews made an appearance. That salami and hummus. Norah O'Donnell's cute kids. The cool political poll. And the weather held up!
NOT: There were times when it was so crowded it was difficult to make your way through the tent. Oh: And we all sweated.
PRE-RATING:

POST-RATING:

WHAT: Pre-Parties
WHEN: Early Saturday evening
WHERE: Washington Hilton
HOT: Celebs, celebs, celebs.
NOT: Those screaming girls near the red carpet. These pre-parties need to start sooner or run later. There's not nearly enough time to hit them all up.

WHAT: The White House Correspondents Dinner.

WHEN: Saturday night
WHERE: Washington Hilton Main Ballroom
HOT: Lots of fun table hopping. It actually didn't feel as crowded in there as usual. Ferguson held his own and Bush's conducting was rather funny.
NOT: Good Lord it was hot in there. And why didn't Bush/Ferguson start until nearly 10pm?

WHAT: Bloomberg After-Party
WHEN: Saturday night, after dinner
WHERE: Costa Rican Embassy
HOT: Great food and drinks. The bleacher set-up was cool. Strong celebrity quotient.
NOT: You can't blame Bloomberg for the weather (which caused some serious leakage inside) but the lines and crowds were not managed well. Throngs of people waiting in line outside were ticked at how slow it took for people on the list (without the Bloomberg cards) to get in (people in the front of the line didn't get in until 11:40, when doors opened at 11).

WHAT: Capitol File After Party
WHEN: Saturday night, after dinner
WHERE: Newseum
HOT: The swag bag. The crowd's energy level ebbed and flowed but the overall mood was pretty jovial. Pete Wentz guest DJing. Strong celebrity quotient. Rosario Dawson hung out until the very end. And how can you not love a party that ends in an a capella version of "Total Eclipse of the Heart?"
NOT: Long lines for drinks. The Newseum's huge space makes it easy for a party to look un-full.
PRE-RATING:

POST-RATING:

WHAT: Vanity Fair After Party

WHEN: Saturday night, after dinner
WHERE: The home of Christopher Hitchens and Carol Blue
HOT: Lovely home. Intimate setting. Small numbers made for accessible people and intriguing conversations.
NOT: It wasn't as if there was anyone there whom you hadn't already seen previously.
PRE-RATING:

POST-RATING:

Captureferg.JPGCaptureferg.JPGCaptureferg2.JPG

WHAT: John McLaughlin Brunch
WHEN: Sunday morning
WHERE: Hay Adams
HOT: Rosario Dawson. Again. The omelette bar. John McCaslin's Corona stories with McSteamy.
NOT: After a weekend of small talk, conversation was lagging.
