  • An ABC release announced that according to Nielsen numbers, ABC News averaged 7.02 million Total Viewers during the State of the Union address. "ABC's coverage was up 41% over its lead-in-a rerun of America's Funniest Home Videos." ABC's post-State of the Union analysis ranked #2 for the night.

  • An NBC release announced "NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams" was "the No. 1 network evening newscast, placing first in total viewers, homes and among the key demographic adults 25-54 during the week of January 15-19." For the week, "Nightly News" won all five
    nights, averaging 10.247 million total viewers, 8% more than ABC's "World News" and 31% lead over CBS's "Evening News."

  • Slate's John Dickerson offers an update of the Scooter Libby trial.

  • ABC News' Jessica Yellin highlights the State of the Union's "memorable visual vignettes."

  • Reader "Ruby Slipper" notes that while Anderson Cooper did not wear his purple bipartisan tie on last night, "the navy blue dotted tie could be his flashback 'Thousand Points of Light' tie!"

  • Politico.com's Ben Smith comments on Howard Kurtz vs. New York Post on the Obama backlash.

  • The Note mentions Roll Call, The Hill yesterday.

  • The City Paper reports, "Mary Cliff is the latest longstanding D.C. media figure to be dropped from the airwaves. The gentle-voiced host of the folk-music show Traditions, heard Saturday nights on WETA-FM for nearly 34 years, was let go by the station Monday. The last 'Traditions' broadcast will be this Saturday, Jan. 27."

  • NPR is holding an Oscar speech writing contest and will record the winning speech for the website. The speech can be no longer than 200 words and the deadline is Feb. 17.
