"I do think that the quality which makes a man want to write and be read is essentially a desire for self-exposure and is masochistic. Like one of those guys who has a compulsion to take his thing out and show it on the street." - James Jones

This Week In Pool Reports

This week in the adventures of the pool, POTUS pulls the quintessential presidential move. He kisses babies!

More after the jump...

  • "The president and Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani, having shifted their photo opportunity from the Oval Office, emerged from the West Wing at 11:45 and strolled should-to-shoulder along the paved walkway to the south entrance of the White House. Both chatted animatedly and smiled at times. 'Morning everyone,' the president said. Responding to what the pool thought was a question from the long row assembled along the south side of the White House, he replied, 'You know, life is good.'" -- Steven Lee Myers, The New York Times

  • "Pool left the hold at about 1:30 p.m. Central for an uneventful motorcade
right back to Peoria Air National Guard Airport. A crowd of about 150-200 people, including a fair number in camo uniform and a lot of kids, were there. Bush worked the rope line for about 10 minutes and was clearly loving it. Three people handed over babies; he held each aloft, beaming, and smiled for the cameras. (One wore sunglasses, Bush was overheard to remark he looked like a little Secret Service agent.) He also signed a bunch of autographs. One kid held a sign that said 'Welcome to Illinois President Bush. We love you'" -- Sheryl Stolberg, New York Times

  • "Uneventful (just as you like air travel to be) flight to Dobbins Air Reserve Base in Marietta. Hawaiian quesadillas en route. (Who knew Hawaii had quesadillas?) Wheels down at 3:46 p.m. POTUS was greeted by Sherri Goggin of Athens, Georgia, who was being honored for her work with families of premature babies. Goggin, herself the mom of four premies, volunteers with several organizations that provide assistance and gift bags to families dealing with the challenges of a premature child." -- Ken Herman, Cox Newspapers

  • "Your pool was ushered into the East Room a little after 7:30 pm. Bush was
hosting a social dinner for past and present Olympians. Your pool did not
recognize many of the guests, but did note Olympic track great Jackie Joyner Kersee at the table where Potus was going to sit. The president entered the room and went to the podium, where he delivered brief remarks and a toast. You will get the transcipt, but Bush was in a jovial mood, pointing out to
Mayor Richard Daley of Chicago, which he said would be hosting the 2016 Olympics (It actually hasn't been decided yet) -- eliciting some laughter from
the crowd." -- Michael Abramowitz, Washington Post
