Pop Culture Mauls Boyish Novelist Who Trys To Figure What It All Means
Jeopardy claims another intellectual. Writing in Salon, cute but serious novelist Louis Bayard makes it through two games, wins some cash, and goes back to DC, with his tail between his legs. In a mad search for meaning, he reads Ken Jennings' book. Jennings is the guy from Utah who won 74 straight games, and never shuts up about it. And that's pretty much it. At least Bayard got a piece out of it. The letter writers include those who've also gone on the game show and won, then lost. The Premium subscribers split on the merits of the piece, but then they're never satisfied. FBLA feels called upon to admit that we were a 4-time Jeopardy winner, losing to a guy who told Alex that he had a large collection of paper-back books. And yet, we feel that our life has not been wasted. But there's still time. Email This Post |
