LA Times Circulation Falls, NY Post Gains: Can Gossip Make the Difference?
According to Editor and Publisher, the Audit Bureau of Circulations FAS-FAX report showed that the Los Angeles Times daily circulation fell 8% to 775,766. Sunday dropped 6% to 1,172,005 over the last 6 months. Contrast and compare the fact that the NY Post made a 5.1% gain. Bruce Feirstein, columnist for NY Observer, blogging at Native Intelligence, makes several good points about the lack-luster quality of the paper, and one great one: And this is where the L.A. Times falls down so badly: By not covering the city as an interesting place, it isn't an interesting newspaper. Perhaps Tim Rutten can take comfort in the idea that while the Times might not have many readers, the ones it does have are cherce.
