An internal memo was sent out to the LAT staffers this moring:

"Sorry to tell you that we are told that Jeff Johnson is out as publisher of the Los Angeles Times. (James) Rainey will have a story tomorrow, no word yet on a successor. Dean (Baquet) is a meeting of senior executives about it right now.

Also, Doug Frantz told the staff today that the rumor that he'd quit if Dean were fired is false. He said he'd stay and is committed to fighting against cutbacks.
