Variety does a news round-up to pull together a story on Owen Wilson who was hospitalized on Sunday. Reports were flying left and right on the Internet late last night about an alleged overdose or possible suicide attempt so Variety picks up items from The Drudge Report and TMZ.com to fill out their story about the actor's tragic incident over the weekend.

Sony and Judd Apatow's "Superbad" continues its stellar run at the box-office taking in $18 million while fielding off a small crush of new releases. But in bigger news, the weekend helped Hollywood pass the $4 billion mark for summer 2007, setting a new record for the big movie season one week before it officially ends with the arrival of the Labor Day holiday. In other THR news, Variety's struggling rival announced today that the trade paper will launch a regional printing with day-and-date delivery in New York and key cities throughout the East Coast. In the story, THR says they "will expand its coverage of the New York and East Coast entertainment markets, providing its national audience with multiplatform access to news, information and data on the business of entertainment." No word on whether they will actually add to their staff for the ambitious project, which will be overseen by newly-installed editor Elizabeth Guider.

THR picks up a story published in Monday's New York Times that says "South Park" creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker have inked a major and unprecedented deal with Viacom that guarantees the comedy duo a 50-50 split of ad revenue and stand-alone Web presence as part of their new three year contract extension.
