What, exactly, is a "Savvy Miss," part two...Sometimes, our cries into the wilderness go unheard. Sometimes not. The other day, for example, we wondered what, exactly, is a Savvy Miss? The answer, it turns out, is a website worthy of the attention of all L.A.'s freelancers. Below, a sample from our mailbag. ---- Hey Claude: We were just googling ourselves (we can't help it - it's so addictive) and came across last week's fishbowl LA posting. So, to answer your questions... - "What, exactly, is a 'Savvy Miss'?" A Savvy Miss is an intellectually curious, fun-loving woman. She's smart, mixes a mean cocktail (or likes to think that she does), and wants to save the world by volunteering, one charity at a time. She'd rather find a good book than know which celebrity was spotted wearing which designer while sipping a nonfat, no whip, triple mocha frappa-whatever; and she cares more about finding a home for abandoned dogs than carting one around in a furry pink purse. She's interesting AND interested. - "And what does she want with you?" Emily Florence is the founder and president of Savvy Miss, and was inspired to fill a gap in web communities for women. iVillage looks to women who are more settled in life; The Knot helps them plan their weddings; Gurl.com is the go-to site for high school girls; and The Nest connects newlyweds. But what about young college and career women, who aren’t yet getting married or going through menopause? Enter Savvy Miss: connecting, empowering and informing savvy women everywhere. Helping to fill the demand for this fresh content is a passionate team, including Managing Editor Molly Millbauer, Senior Editor Shauna Billings, and Editor Carita Rizzo. And the response of readers and writers alike has been fantastic. - So what do we want from the writers of Los Angeles? We want your pitches and your support! Join our message boards where you can connect with women all over the world; contribute your empowering, fun and informative prose; and tell your friends, daughters and sisters about SavvyMiss.com! ---- There. We've done our part. So, go forth, ye underemployed freelancers of L.A.: Don't be an ass who's lost at sea (pictured at left); pitch the Miss! Email This Post |
