10 Year BDays
Both Slate and washingtonpost.com celebrate their 10 year anniversaries this week with a look down memory lane (not a shocker that they share a birthday — they are family, after all). Their self-congratulations isn’t misplaced: Perhaps no two online organizations have done it so well for so long as these two.
Washington Post’s Steve Fox leads us through the story of Washingtonpost.com from its conception to birth, leading us through the late nights, the doubts and the turmoil that the made the site what we know and love today.
Adopted cousin, Slate, has a similar story to share through the eyes of founding editor Michael Kinsley, while current editor Jacob Weisberg tackles the question — “What Makes Slate, Slatey?” Both read like a who’s who among journos today.
How will these two perform during their teenage years?
(But don’t ask Jack Shafer what he thinks of these anniversaries…)
