Dr. Ruth's Sexy Soundbites on D.C. Radio

dr-ruth-westheimer-from-time.jpgPolitics Daily's "Republic of Dish" columnist Annie Groer reporting that Ruth Westheimer will offer D.C. radio her thoughts on love for Valentine's Day.

An excerpt:
"Destination DC" tourism officials are hoping that Dr. Ruth Westheimer, the teeny-tiny, octogenarian TV sex therapist, will give the capital city a boost during a Friday satellite hookup with radio stations seeking a few pre-Valentine soundbites. At a press conference here last month, Dr. Ruth was sworn in as Washington's endearingly bogus "Secretary of the Department of Love and Relationships," and, in return, enthusiastically hyped Washington's 28-day tourism "stimulus package" to lure romantic big spenders to town during dreary February."

Politico's Allen Hitches Ride to CBS Live Shot

snowflaker.jpg

Politico's Mike Allen pulled off quite a feat this morning in the blizzard that has newscasters telling people to "stay home".

ABC7's Rebecca Cooper Dupin tweeted weather-ridden praise to Politico's Mike Allen. "Shoutout to POLITICO's @mikeallen -- got to his live shot at CBS by hitching ride with snow plow. Love it."

Journos' Snow Remarks

NBC's Andrea Mitchell
"Total white out wind picking up with great NBC snow driver, we can barely see traffic signals. The few plowed rds now covered again," she tweeted.

WaPo's Chris Cillizza
"The last #snowmageddon was kind of fun," he tweeted. "This one makes me feel like Jack Nicholson in 'The Shining.'"

Courtney Cohen, production coordinator, ABC's "This Week"
"Why did I move to a climate that required me having to dress like Sheriff Marge from Fargo?" she tweeted.

Chris Lehmann, who recently sold "Rich People Things" column as a book
"Just wake me when the blizzard's over, okay?" he tweeted. And this morning: "All right then -- back to bed.

Mike Memoli, White House reporter, Real Clear Politics
"Local news for the next 24 hours: Dozens of reporters all over town finding different ways to say, "It's snowing," he tweeted.

Major Garrett, Fox News White House correspondent
"Staying downtown in hotel due to snowslamalamadingdong. WH staff left early (7ish). Told 2 take secure laptops home."

This photograph is the view out Bloomberg's Lizzie O'Reilly's window. She wonders, "Why am I in the office?"

Begala Compliments Tucker, 'the Bastard'

Tucker Carlson Paul Begala1.jpgDemocratic Strategist and Pundit Paul Begala reminisces about his old friend Daily Caller Editor-in-Chief Tucker Carlson in an opinion piece Tuesday on the Daily Caller Web site.

In it, he takes a look back at their days opposite each other on CNN's "Crossfire" in which arguments between them sparked daily. But for today, he says, Tucker got something right.

An excerpt:
"We are as different as we can be, Tucker Carlson and I. He is a Protestant, libertarian, elitist conservative. I am a Catholic, communitarian, populist Democrat. And yet I have to tip my hat to him. Tucker predicted the winter of our discontent more accurately than all the president's pollsters and all the president’s men."

Good Morning FishbowlDC Readers

Quote(s) of the Day
"As long as she's writing reminders on her hand may I suggest one more: buy condoms."
-- Bill Maher, host of HBO's "Real Time with Maher", tweeted on Fox News Contributor Sarah Palin.

"Gibbs I gotta tell you something, you're no Sarah Palin."
-- FNC's Sean Hannity, in defense of Palin on his show last night, referring to White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs. Gibbs was perceived as mocking Palin in Tuesday's briefing by jotting notes on his hand, which Palin did during the Tea Party Convention in Nashville.

FNC Contributor to Run for Congress

angela_mcglowan.jpgHuffPost reporting that FNC Contributor Angela McGlowan is planning a run for Congress.

If elected McGlowan would become the third African American Republican to be elected to the House in the past 75 years. She hinted her run for a Mississippi seat at the Tea Party Convention. She plans to announce soon.

TWT's Curl's Snowy Hell

driveway2-1.jpg

While many scribes are already back on the beat, we decided to check in TWT's White House correspondent Joseph Curl, mainly because he lives waaaaay out by Warrenton, Va. He told us a tale that could elicit sympathy if it wasn't just a tad funny.

In short, Curl's been shoveling for days.
But let's hear it in his own words:

"I've been shoveling for three days now. We got 27 inches of snow, which means it take three scoops just to clear a 3-foot by 3-foot patch of driveway. The driveway's 400-feet long. That's 1,200 feet of shoveling, times eight feet wide (someone out there, figure out the volume of THAT!). It's all pointless, though. At the end of the driveway begins a quarter-mile gravel road out to what my dad would call 'the hard road.'

"On Day 2, a plow couldn't even make it onto the gravel road because the VDOT rig had left a five-foot wall of snow at the main road. On Monday, we dug a hole in the wall. My house is at the end of a quarter-mile gravel road. Our plow guy got stuck, so I've been digging him out over and over. This is now my full-time job (went to sleep around 9 to rest up for a full day of shoveling). New plan: front-loader coming in.

"By 2 p.m. Tuesday, I'd made it to the end of the driveway, and some neighbors got the guy with the front-loader to scoop a path down the gravel road. Freedom!"

Or, not.

"Right now, at 4 p.m., the first flakes of what is expected to be 10-20 inches of snow are just beginning to fall. I might be dug out by the spring. Really not looking forward to more shoveling. Whole body aches. Who needs weight rooms and treadmills? I'm sure I've lost five pounds just shoveling. But then again, I may drop dead at any moment."

(FishbowlDC wishes Curl a safe, upcoming, alleged snowstorm.)

> Update: A friend tells Curl he moved 7,200 cubic feet of snow. In other words, he says, "All I know is it was a f--kload of snow." Indeed.

Washington Life's "YGL" Issue Hits Newsstands

wlygl.jpg "Young & the Guest List," Washington Life's annual roundup of roughly 200 (more this year) of the metro area's top innovators under the age of 40 just hit newsstands. This year's list includes 152 men, 112 women, 2 diplomats 35 CEOs and 44 folks from the White House and Cap Hill. WL tells us that there were 78 new editions this year and a quick read proves that DC media types were well-represented.

Just a few of the media types to make the cut include CNN's Jessica Yellin, WaPo's Dan Zak, ABC7's Kris Van Cleave, Cynee Simpson and Scott Thuman, C-SPAN's Greta Brawner, Fox News' Bret Baier and wife Amy, AP's Desmond Butler, MTP's Betsy Fischer Roll Call's Jackie Kucinich, ABC's Emily Lenzner, NBC's Luke Russert, Daily Caller's Becca Glover, Ross Douthat, UrbanDaddy's Jeff Dufour and wifey, Jayne Sandman Dufour. Representing White House media types are Dep. Comm Director Jen Psaki, Comm Director Dan Pfeiffer and Dir. of New Media Macon Phillips.

In addition, three generations of FishbowlDC appear on this year's list - Washingtonian's Garrett Graff, Politico's Patrick Gavin and me, Matt Dornic.

For the full list, pick up a copy at Whole Foods, newsstands and book stores around the city. For more on the YGL, check out Washington Life's website here and a behind-the-scenes video from the YGL fashion shoot below.

Esquire Rips Kristol (Semi-Jokingingly We Think...)

esquire_logo.gif

Esquire's Mark Warren interviews The Weekly Stanard's/Daily Caller's Matt Labash in a must-read interview as it nastily rips apart everyone from author Labash to his boss, Bill Kristol to Politico, which Warren says brings on his narcolepsy. ("ZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzZZZZ", he writes.)

Labash's Fly Fishing with Darth Vader was released today.

A sampling:

Warren: Does Kristol realize you work for him? And what are you doing in Washington? Every writer there except you sucks hard.

ML: First off, I don't know which of your pets Bill Kristol ran over, but if you like me, you like Kristol, because he's one of the few editors in America who'd let me do what I do. That said, no, Kristol actually has no idea I work for him. I introduced myself once around '95, but I don't think he caught the name. I just kept showing up to editorial meetings, so he started calling me "David Brooks." I played through, and have kept doing so. Which is odd, as now he tells me that he loves my column in the New York Times. I don't know what he's going to do when they hide my/Brooks's column behind the pay wall. It's not fair to him. It's not fair to anyone.

NBC Chili Cookoff Postponed

chili.jpg

This postponed line is getting repetitive, but we've got another one.

NBC's Chuck Todd tweets:
"Now NBC's DC buro's chili cookoff has been postponed. I hate you snow monster, where's Jacob to save us from snow!"

Every year NBC's Washington bureau has a chili cookoff.

A source thought "Jacob" might be from the Bible. Lo and behold, Jacob is from ABC's "Lost".
