ABC + HD

Fishbowl’s partner TVNewser has been providing running commentary all over the inauguration this morning, including this note about ABC’s coverage:

Today’s ABC News inauguration coverage is historic: It will mark the first time an inauguration is broadcast in High Definition. At 7am this morning, Good Morning America became the first network news program to air in HD. “There is nothing more beautiful than Washington on an inauguration day,” Charlie Gibson said, highlighting ABC’s HD images. Peter Jennings says the HD broadcast “makes the nation’s capital look unlike how it ever has before.”

As anyone who’s wandered by DeSales Street recently can attest, the ABC production is quite the, well, production. They’ve got two tractor trailer trucks and a modular trailer set up to do the HD broadcasting, and have built all sorts of plywood contraptions to house the broadcasting crew.

Kind of makes you wonder whether anyone actually wants to see Charlie Gibson in such rich detail…
