Digital Expert: ‘Dont Beg, It’s Just Sad’

Sree1Digital expert Sree Sreenivasan, who has amassed a following from journalists to tech nerds, revealed some of what he said are secrets to his social media success at an American University workshop on Tuesday.

One was for journalists to cultivate sources through Twitter, Facebook and multiple other social platforms when not on deadline. Practice connecting with people on multiple platforms, he said, because some journalists who have few connections through one medium find success with another.

“Build out your presence when you don’t need it,” he told the group of 40 students, journalists and professors. “Practice when you don’t need it. When you do need it, it will be there.”

Similar to a tweet, Sreenivasan synthesized his message to three letter acronyms and links that he used to expound open his media tips. “Remember ‘ABC,’ always be charging and always be collecting information,” he said as he charged his phone during his seminar. “Everyone will have something world exclusive happen in front of them, and you need to be prepared.”

Take photos of everything, he said. Record everything. Post the information on various sites, but keep in mind what Sreenivasan called ‘SAA.’  “Share as appropriate,” he said. Not everything needs to be associated with you.

But whenever you practice, Sree said, remember one thing.

“Don’t beg,” he said. “It’s just sad.”
