An Eye On Hotline’s Ververs

ververs.jpgCBS’ new effort to provide more transparency in its news coverage will take at least one much beloved D.C. insider away from his post. Hotline’s Vaughn Ververs, long the brains of the daily political hotsheet (paired with Chuck Todd‘s beauty), will be CBS’ “Public Eye” on issues of reporting.

In “a move unprecedented among CBS’s peers in broadcast and cable television,” the new blog will create a “candid and robust dialogue between CBS News journalists and the public,” the network announced.

“Ververs will serve as the conduit between the public and CBS News to take viewers and users inside the news gathering, production and decision-making process via the use of original video and outtakes, interviews with correspondents and producers, and input from independent experts, among other methods.”

Or, as Hotline summed it up this week, “In short, if Vaughn Cs B.S., he’ll point it out. (Trust us on that!)”

A Tiffany network veteran from back in the day, Ververs has spent over a decade at the Hotline.

“There’s not enough space to talk about the many contributions Vaughn’s made to this publication and we still have a few weeks to lavish him with deserved accolades, but he should know one thing: no matter where his byline appears, he’ll always be a Hotliner,” the sheet said this week.

The plus side, though, is that Ververs can sleep a little later each day.

> On Friday, Ververs bid adieu in his column.
