AnonymASS Tipster of the Week

An anonymous note just into FishbowlDC:

“Amongst is not standard usage on this side of the pond, old bean, and will get you accused of angling for a job at Newsweek, WSJ or other pubs edited by Brits or Aussies” — Anonymous

The tipster, apparently a conspiracy theorist, is referencing a headline we used in a recent “Quotes of the Day” to describe a conversation “amongst” three reporters. No doubt British and Australian editors everywhere will be discussing this issue amongst themselves. DailyWritingTips.com says “among” and “amongst” can be used interchangeably. But the picture below best depicts my reply.
