Michael Barone Joins The Washington Examiner
as Senior Political Analyst

Washington, D.C. – Michael Barone, one of the country’s leading commentators on politics and government, is joining The Washington Examiner as senior political analyst, it was announced Monday.

Barone, a resident scholar at the American Enterprise Institute and for 18 years a senior writer at U.S. News & World Report, will write a twice-weekly column for the Examiner’s new Politics page and blog regularly for washingtonexaminer.com.

Barone is widely known as the principal co-author of The Almanac American Politics, founded in 1971 and published by National Journal every two years.

“Michael knows more about politics than anyone in journalism, as his peers will attest,” said Stephen G. Smith, editor of The Washington Examiner. “His encyclopedic knowledge and ability to write quickly and thoughtfully are ideally suited to the Internet age.”

Barone joins chief political correspondent Byron York, formerly of National Review, and political editor Chris Stirewalt as columnists for the Politics page.

“Byron, Chris, and Michael give us a lineup of political analysts equal to any in the country,” Smith said. “For people interested in the subject, The Washington Examiner has now become essential reading.”

“I am very excited and pleased to have the chance to join The Examiner at this challenging time for journalism and for our country,” Barone said. “I’m happy to have the chance to return to daily journalism and to have my writing appear in print throughout the Washington area.”

Barone is a contributor to the Fox News Channel and has appeared on many other television programs.

Over the years he has written for many other publications, including the New York Times, the Economist, the Weekly Standard, the New Republic, National Review, the Times Literary Supplement, and the Daily Telegraph and the Sunday Times of London. His column is syndicated by Creators Syndicate.

The Washington Examiner is published daily Sunday through Friday, and its content and blogs appear on washingtonexaminer.com. The newspaper, along with its sister publication, The San Francisco Examiner, are owned by Denver-based Clarity Media Group. It is available online at www.dcexaminer.com.
