Be A Journalist: Get Rich
New York Magazine has their annual round-up of who makes what, and there are a couple of surprising numbers on it–for instance, the NYT’s Thomas L. Friedman pulls down a cool 300K from his employer, not including his speaking fees and (we assume) hefty book royalties. At that rate, the paper needs to attract 6,006 TimesSelect subscribers to pay for him.
Time’s head honcho, James Kelly, makes $1.1 million, just slightly less than the editor of US Weekly. And, of course, Jim Romenesko, who is labeled a “blogger” by the magazine (probably much to his horror), makes a cool $169,187–or roughly 4.5 times what Gawker pays its writers.
Meanwhile the new Reliable Sourcettes, Amy Argetsinger and Roxanne Roberts, are probably looking at that list and wondering how many years they have to put in earning the Post’s (relatively) paltry salaries before they get to make the leap to the Gossip Big Leagues where Page Six’s Richard Johnson makes $300,000.
