BlackBerry Blackout for WH Press in New Delhi

THE DEEP END…TIPS FROM THE POOL

Rules for the media appear to be strict at the presidential palace in New Delhi. McClatchy’s Margaret Talev wrote in a Pool Report that arrived to Washington this morning (we cleaned up punctuation, spelling and capitalizations):

We are at the President’s palace where U.S. Embassy and Indian officials insist there is a BlackBerry blackout. Cells and bberrys must be dropped w police. Hope to file asap afterward they say this nonnegotiable.

> Update: Talev writes into FishbowlDC from India to say hello and explain further: “In my defense, I was literally thumbing it out before they confiscated the berry!). It was quite a hectic scene over at the palace, and those were the house rules. It worked out fine, but we didn’t have advanced warning so it was an uneasy feeling to be on pool with no phone, berry or laptop as a lifeline. Also I wanted to get a note out so the motorcade pool knew the situation they’d be coming into. How accustomed we’ve all become to instant communication!”
