Bring Back Barry!

Washington Nationals fans are getting ready to revolt! As we pointed out yesterday, the Post’s Nats writer is taking a leave while the team is home right now–a stringer took yesterday’s story and a staff writer took today’s article–and it’s Svrluga’s absence that has brought the nascent hopes and dreams of so many fans crashing down around them.

The Marlins are making mince-meat of the Nats in his absence. He addressed his absence today in his Wednesday baseball chat:

Rosslyn, Va.: Where have you gone Barry Svrluga? A lonely nation turns its eyes to you …

Barry Svrluga: Ah, Rosslyn, you are kind for noticing. As most beat writers don’t cover 162 games (at least the sane ones), I took Monday and Tuesday off. We, like the players, must pace ourselves. Don’t worry, though, I’m back in my perch at the press box at RFK, and am ready for a good stretch. And I watched the game on ESPN Monday night and listened to the radio last night.

So, if the Nats win tonight, it’s because Barry’s back. If they lose again, we’ll know it’s something else entirely. Maybe.
