Burton to Step in For Gibbs Today

The White House announced that Deputy Press Sec. Bill Burton will brief the White House Press Corps today instead of Press Sec. Robert Gibbs.

The switch comes on the heels of Gibbs trashing what he believes are liberal naysayers who don’t support President Obama. In a story this morning from Sam Youngman, White House correspondent for The Hill, Gibbs complained about this brand of liberal, saying, “I hear these people saying he’s like George Bush. Those people ought to be drug tested,” Gibbs said. “I mean, it’s crazy.”

Gibbs apologized today for his comments in The Hill, calling them “inartful.”

The White House indicated Gibbs’s statements on liberals are not the reason Burton is filling in for Gibbs today. As of yet, they have offered no reason.
