Ratings are in for Tuesday night’s defeat of House Majority Leader Eric Cantor by Tea Party challenger Dave Brat in the 7th District of Virginia primary. As the news began to spread of the upset, many Americans turned to the cable news networks for reporting and analysis of what FNC’s Bret Baier described as “arguably the biggest political story we’ve seen in decades.”
In the 8 – 9 pm hour, Fox News Channel was on top of the ratings, with 2,794,000 total viewers and 485,000 viewers in the A25-54 demo. MSNBC took second, with 659,000 total viewers and 141,000 in the A25-54 demo, while CNN was third with 424,000 total viewers and 117,000 in the A25-54 demo.
Ratings placements for the 9 – 10 pm hour and 10 – 11 pm hour remained the same for FNC, MSNBC, and CNN, although total and demo viewers declined.
