A (Second) Day at ‘The View’ with Emily Miller

Screen Shot 2014-08-05 at 18.08.36We missed “The View” this morning but caught up this afternoon on FOX 5 chief investigative reporter Emily Miller‘s second time in a week guest hosting the show in her bid for a permanent spot at the table.

Unfortunately for Miller, regular co-host Whoopi Goldberg was not in the best of moods after backlash from viewers for comments she made Monday on teacher tenure, leading her to speak over or cut off the Emily Gets her Gun author. And Goldberg wasn’t the only one who didn’t want to hear what Miller had to say. Many on Twitter weren’t too nice either (h/t Peter Ogburn).

Whether or not Miller is still in the running is still up in the air. Also from Washington, the same goes for CNN’s S.E. Cupp, who guest hosted twice in July.

In the meantime, for a behind the scenes look at “The View,” click through to see Miller’s tweets from her morning at the Upper West Side ABC studios. Read more

Daily Caller’s Betsy Rothstein Gets Lit for Interview with Marijuana Consultant

admin-ajax.phpOver the weekend, former FishbowlDC editor turned editor of The Daily Caller’s ‘The Mirror’ Betsy Rothstein posted an interview she conducted – completely stoned – with marijuana industry strategist Aaron Houston.

Three puffs in, from an undisclosed patio within the confines of North America, Rothstein recalls in her piece, “It was all downhill from there. Or uphill. Or sideways. Or upside-down. I can’t quite piece it together, but I’ll try.” Sounds like “Inception.”

The interview accompanied Rothstein’s regular feature of “The Mirror Questionnaire,” a Q&A typically conducted over email on the interviewee’s career and thoughts on Washington along with some satire, and this time around, includes Rothestein’s internal thought process in italics.

I feel like I’m swimming.” “WE BOTH START LAUGHING UNCONTROLLABLY.” “Seeing four of him. WTF? HEEEELLLPPP. His words sound like they’re in a bubble. Trying to understand what the fuck he’s saying.Read more

Political Journalist Tweets Repeat Rather Than Fact Check Presidential Candidate Claims

Twitter_logo_blueA recently published paper in The International Journal of Press/Politics says that 60 percent of tweets by political journalists during debates repeat a presidential candidate’s claims rather than fact check them for accuracy.

The Poynter Institute yesterday reported on the paper by the University of Texas School of Journalism’s Mark Coddington, Logan Molyneux and Regina Lawrence in which they looked at the tweets of 430 journalists sent off during the 2012 presidential debates.

“They found that 60 percent of the journalist tweets ‘reflected traditional practices of ‘professional’ objectivity: stenography—simply passing along a claim made by a politician—and ‘he said, she said’ repetition of a politician’s claims and his opponent’s counterclaim…Journalists largely repeated the claims and statement of candidates, rather that check or challenge them.”
