Spotted Around Town: WJLA’s Scott Thuman and 95.5′s Sunni

Last night was the one year anniversary of the opening of restaurant Mari Vanna, the DC home of authentic Russian cuisine and vodka (lots and lots of vodka). Managers Victor Star and Sergii Andriushchenko threw a big ole’ party to celebrate, but we, alas, were unable to go. Apparently some other local media celebs were in attendance, however.

WPGC 95.5′s midday host Sunni popped by.

Spotted: WaPo’s Gene Weingarten

Spotted in Eastern Market Thursday afternoon was none other than WaPo‘s “humor” columnist Gene Weingarten, who recently announced on Twitter that he has two penises. He was, of course, joking (we think).

Still, you could imagine our excitement when an anonymous tipster texted these to my cell phone. “At first it looked like he was wearing a Canadian Tuxedo — denim on demin,” said our tipster, explaining that Weingarten was spotted in the Eastern Market neighborhood of Washington, D.C. “Upon further inspection, it was just an ordinary blue shirt and blue pants.”

Sighting: Andrew Sullivan Pacing

Want to know where to look for conservative blogger Andrew Sullivan, who writes The Dish?

On some days, such as one afternoon late last week, he was pacing outside Starbucks in the Adams Morgan neighborhood of Washington talking on his cell phone. The topics of his conversation included (in no particular order): policy innovation, gay marriage and his brother’s birthday.

Not that we were eavesdropping or anything.

Spotted: WaPo’s Wemple Plays Ball (Dangerously)

WaPo‘s always good-natured and almost never mean Erik Wemple was spotted over the weekend on a block off Dupont Circle playing catch and speaking fluent Spanish with his son. The Erik Wemple Blog, as he prefers to refer to himself (relentlessly), wore dark shorts and a red top. He and his son nearly took out some nearby windows of cars and soon decided a park was a better place to play catch rather than a city street lined with parked cars.

We fully blame the missed catches on the Erik Wemple Blog.

Spotted: Charlie Hurt at the Café

Ahhh…life really is a fishbowl, isn’t it?

The Drudge Report and TWT‘s Charlie Hurt was spotted at Le Quotidien at Eastern Market today. He was “just shuffling through,” said our tipster. His hands were full of papers and he, of course, had his computer. He was dressed in khaki shorts, a maroon polo shirt and tennis shoes. “He looked hurried,” our source added.

Spotted: Rep. Mark Takano at Dupont Bar

Who says lawmakers can’t have fun during the grueling work week? Rep. Mark Takano, an openly gay Democratic congressman representing Riverside, Calif., was spotted at JR’s Bar & Grill Monday night, which happened to be “Showtunes Night.” JR’s is a well-known gay bar on 17th Street in the Dupont Circle neighborhood of Washington. The congressman did not sing. He was not holding a drink, though he was seen buying one for a 20-something guy. He stood around until 12:45 a.m. and then bolted.

Spotted: Sen. Harry Reid at City Church

A reader writes in…

“Harry Reid was at my church yesterday…”

Reid (D-Nev.), the Senate Majority Leader, was spotted by more than a few attendees at services Sunday at City Church in northwest Washington. See the Twitter evidence after the jump.

FP’s Ex-Hounshell to Politico?

FP‘s ex-Managing Editor Blake Hounshell, who announced that he was leaving the magazine Friday after six and a half years, was spotted across the river at Politico that very same day.

We’re not PI’s, but rumors are swirling that he could secure a job at Politico and follow in the footsteps of Susan Glasser, who also recently resigned from FP as Editor-in-Chief.

Spotted: David Gregory at Neiman Marcus

A reader writes in…

“Saw David Gregory at Neiman Marcus Wednesday afternoon. He was standing by himself (he’s as tall as a giraffe) in the jewelry department and not talking to anyone.”

Gregory is, of course, host of NBC’s “Meet the Press.” We reached out to him to see if he had a comment on the matter.

Daily Caller Editor Poses With Chris Hayes

As pre-White House Correspondents’ Dinner cocktail parties at the Washington Hilton came to a close Saturday, MSNBC’s Chris Hayes (a.k.a. Hazy) was spotted mingling in National Review‘s private room with other stragglers, including The Daily Caller‘s Senior Online Editor Vince Coglianese.

After introducing himself to Hayes, Coglianese asked if the two could pose for a picture together. “You’re not going to deface it or anything, are you?” asked Hayes, half joking. Coglianese assured him he would not and the photo was shot.

“We just spoke for a second,” Coglianese told FishbowlDC. “I asked him to take a picture with me so I could send it to [Daily Caller TV reporter] Jeff Poor. He obliged and asked that I extend to Poor this message: “Auburn sucks.”

Poor, an Auburn University graduate, has written critically of Hayes in the past.
