Sightings in the Fishbowl: CNN’s Brazile Turns Heroic

The weekend brought numerous media sightings around the city.

Thursday gave way to Bill Kristol, who FBDC saw wander out of the CVS on 17th and P Streets. It struck us as slightly odd to see the conservative editor of The Weekly Standard casually stroll up 17th, given the abundance of gay pride paraphernalia on display. No need to be alarmed, however. Kristol, who is married (to a woman), stopped at the Turkish restaurant Agora, not one of the other establishments on 17th such as JR’s, where bartenders have been known to serve drinks half nude or DIK Bar (exactly how it sounds).

At Eastern Market on Saturday we saw nothing short of an act of heroism by Democratic Strategist Donna Brazile, a CNN contributor. We spotted Brazile dressed comfortably in sandals, a T-shirt and what looked like sweat pants walking her fluffy black dog. A separate dog that was obviously lost padded over to Brazile, who yelled out to a woman in the crowd, “she’s over here!” The woman, apparently familiar with Brazile, approached and said “Donna, I’ve never lost her before.” A happy ending.

On the same day, also at Eastern Market, we spotted a distinguished gentleman walking alongside his bright red Schwinn bike. Our first guess was Pee Wee Herman, but it turned out to be Jimmy LaSalvia, co-founder of GOProud, a gay Republican group.

Spotted: Pauly Shore Taking Coffee Break

Pauly Shore, aka The Weasel, is in town filming material for his upcoming Showtime comedy special, “Pauly-tics.” We spotted him jetting out of the Starbucks across from the Eastern Market metro station. He seemed to be in QUITE the hurry. He was wearing a “Pauly-tics” T-shirt and sunglasses and didn’t seem to notice one person who attempted to say hello. The special will tape on June 30th at the 9:30 Club and airing later in the year. Showtime tells FBDC that he is in town shooting preliminary segments that will include Pauly at various DC monuments including Ben’s Chili Bowl. Luckily, we just watched “Encino Man” the other day or we wouldn’t have recognized him with his shorter hair cut.

Spotted: Who’s That on the Vespa?

The Washington Times may have been trying to capture the self-driving Google car in today’s edition, but they also captured The Daily Caller‘s Tucker Carlson, who has been caught repeatedly driving his wife’s scooter around town. He appears to be glancing at the car as if to say ‘That self-driving bullshit has nothing on me.’

The photograph below appeared on page A10 of today’s TWT.

Spotted: TWT’s Hurt Eating Pizza Pie

Sighting: TWT columnist and Drudge’s Charlie Hurt was seen outside 7th Hill Pizza near Eastern Market Wednesday enjoying a pie with wild mushrooms and basil. From the smile on his face and upper body stretch, looks like he had a good meal. A note of utter unimportance: Take note of Hurt’s freshly cut locks. He hardly looks like himself, so much so we thought it might be his brother, Rep. Robert Hurt, a member of Congress from Virginia’s 5th Congressional District. See a picture of him at right.

Sighting: George Lucas at the Ritz

While waiting for a ride that never showed FBDC staked out  the Ritz Carlton on 22nd St. NW Thursday night. And guess who popped up? We spotted legendary film director George Lucas looking frumpy in a plaid shirt, casual blazer and a crooked name tag (why in Ewok hell is GEORGE LUCAS wearing a name tag?!).

Lucas hopped off a bus at the hotel with some common folk and was nice enough to pose for a couple pictures with fans.

Spotted in D.C.: Obama with Snooki

Tryst, located on 18th st. in Adams Morgan, has turned on the “classy.”

It looks like the restaurant has invested in new art to hang on the walls. Included among the new Roseart glitter portraits, President Barack Obama and “The Jersey Shore”s Snooki hanging side by side.

Just how the Founding Fathers intended.

Andrew Sullivan’s Lazy Sunday at Napoleon Café

Spotted: Late Sunday afternoon, The Daily Beast‘s Andrew Sullivan could be seen lounging in shorts al fresco at Napoleon Café in Adams Morgan. Dining with two men.Well-behaved dogs lying at their feet. Sullivan appeared to be enjoying his brunch of waffles and fruit.

NYT’s Carl Hulse Rocks the House

Over the weekend, The Native Makers, the rock band featuring Carl Hulse on the drums, rocked Capitol Hill in an event labeled Rock and Roll Apocalypse. Hulse, the NYT Deputy Bureau Chief, ripped through a series of cover songs at the 18th Amendment on Capitol Hill. The playlist leaned heavily on the Rolling Stones and other classic rock favorites. In a bizarre stage setup, the band was forced to play directly beneath a giant TV playing a “Rocky” movie marathon. The howls of Grateful Dead cover songs provided a very unique soundtrack to Rocky Balboa’s defeat of Clubber Lang.

Jamming in the crowd were WSJ’s Neil King with his wife, Shalaigh Murray , who is now communications director for VPOTUS. Also spotted: HuffPost’s Arthur Delaney, WaPo’s Mike DeBonis and Susan G. Komen’s Kiki Ryan with Tim Burger. Quinn Gillespie & Associates was well repped with both John Feehery and Jim Manley in attendance in a marked sign of bipartisanship.

Spotted: Eliot Spitzer in Eastern Market Café

Spotted this morning: Ex-CNN host Eliot Spitzer saying hello to Slate‘s Dahlia Lithwick at Peregrine Espresso on Capitol Hill. They were both guests on Bill Press‘s “Full Court Press” radio show that airs on Current TV and met up after their hit.

Spitzer and Lithwick passed each other as she was on her way and he was on his way into the show. Lithwick emaled the show to have Spitzer meet her at the café after his hit. He did so, but had to leave early for a breakfast meeting.
