Earlier this month we took a look at the social standing of the DC publications and Washington-based national anchors. Now it’s time to turn again to local broadcasters. FishbowlDC tallied the Twitter followers of the Washington market’s top on-air talent. We also noted the percent growth from last month (Month Over Month). Here’s what we found:

FishbowlDC tallied the Twitter followers of DC’s TV and radio stations, as well as those of the top on-air talent. Here’s what we found:

The takeaway: NBC 4 is the most socially engaged of the local stations overall. They claim the number one spot among broadcast stations and their staff accounts for 9 of the top 15 local personalities on Twitter. CBS 9 comes next, with a solid second place in the station rankings and 3 of the top 15 personalities. And ABC 7 comes in third place overall -the station has less followers than WTOP, but they do contribute 2 personalities in the top 15.

*NewsChannel 8 is DC’s local cable channel.

Yesterday we took a look at the social standing of the DC publications, now it’s time to turn our attention to those network anchors who call our fair city home. FishbowlDC took a look at the Twitter followers of some of DC’s biggest television personalities, and here’s what we found:

The takeaways: 1) Rankings are unchanged from last month -with the average rate of growth hovering around 2%. 2) The biggest under performer though, was Howard Kurtz, who added only 204 new followers over the course of January. 3) Top performers were Greta VanSusteren with 13,301 new followers, Bret Baier with 10,947, George Stephanopoulos with 9,634, and Chris Matthews with 8,814.

**Brian and George are both married to New York, but cheat with DC on the weekends. Also, George is on network TV quite literally every day, which other anchors in this category are not. Chris is based in DC, but does not have a Twitter account. His show, “Fox News Sunday”, does, however, have 76,775 followers, a 3.1% increase from last month.

It’s that time of the month again to see who’s up and who’s down in the Twitter-verse. FishbowlDC’s number-crunchers are hard at work analyzing data from all manner of DC media accounts, but for today let’s talk print and online publications. We took a look at the followers of DC’s biggest pubs and compared them to stats from last month.

Here are the top take-aways: 1) Every pub added more followers percentage-wise in January than they did in December -except The Washington Times. Their followers grew at a steady 2.1% in both months. 2) Washington City Paper and the Washington Examiner both posted impressive gains this past month. WCP followers increased by 8.2% in January compared to 4.2% in December. The Examiner grew by 8.9% last month, compared to 4.3% the month before.

FBDC Tweeterboard: Local TV Stations and Anchors

Last week we took a look at the social standing of the DC publications and Washington-based national anchors. Now it’s time to turn our attention to local television. FishbowlDC took a look at the Twitter followers of DC’s local TV stations as well as some of the top anchors in our market. Here’s what we found:

The takeaway: NBC 4 is by far the most socially engaged of the local stations -both in terms of the station’s brand and in terms of their anchors’. Almost all the local NBC anchors are highly active on Twitter, with weekend anchor Angie Goff and chief meteorologist* Doug Kammerer far outshining their colleagues and their competitors. CBS 9 weekend anchor Bruce Johnson also makes a strong showing. Together, the top 3 on the list have almost as many followers as the next 12 combined.

The takeaway: David Gregory is by far the biggest DC anchor on Twitter. He has more than twice as many followers as  Wolf Blitzer, who is on-air five times a week, and almost as many as George Stephanopoulos who hosts the #1 morning show as well as a Sunday show.
