What’s the name of your cell phone ring? ‘Hello Moto’: my three-year-old set it and I have been too lazy to change it.

What time did you get up this morning? 6 am.

When did you last cry and why? Chinese New Year — which we celebrated last year with my mother, who died over the summer.

How many emails do you receive a day, roughly? 200.

What single person played the biggest role / had the biggest influence on your journalism career? Levko Lukianenko, one of the last Soviet dissidents to be released from prison.

When’s the last time you volunteered? Where? A few weeks ago — I helped a little bit with brunch at the Ukrainian school my daughters attend on Saturday mornings.

Who is your favorite active journalist? Martin Wolf.

What did you have for breakfast? Latkes.

What one toiletry item could you not live without? Dental floss.

If you could have one superpower, which one would it be? The United States, of course! (I am a former Moscow correspondent.)

Red or white wine? Red.

PG-13 or R? R by preference, but my real life is pretty PG-13 at the moment.
