This weekend CNN will air a new special entitled “Battlefield Breakthroughs.” Featuring Pentagon correspondent Barbara Starr and chief medical correspondent Dr. Sanjay Gupta, the two-part special takes a look at the medical breakthroughs developed on the battlefields – from long-distance robot surgeries and extraordinary prosthetics to creative physical rehabilitation techniques and effective pain management. In addition, Gupta and Starr will report how the medical lessons learned in war are impacting care at civilian rehab centers, doctor’s offices, and trauma centers – including the surgical care that saved the life of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-AZ). “Battlefield Breakthroughs” will air on Saturday, July 9 and Sunday, July 10 at 7:30am ET.
