Cool “Disco” Dan, a graffiti legend in Washington, is the subject of a new documentary that will be premiered at the AFI Theater in Silver Spring on February 23rd at 8pm. “The Legend of Cool ‘Disco’ Dan” will focus on Dan’s graffiti art that spread through the streets of Washington, D.C. It will also examine the era that saw the rise of G0-Go music, rampant crack abuse, racial tensions and media sensationalism.
Graffiti historian Roger Gastman and filmmaker Dan Pattisall say that they spent over 10 years researching and documenting the unknown stories of Cool “Disco” Dan for the movie. The film is narrated by fellow D.C. native Henry Rollins, who will attnd the premiere.

The movie is set to coincide with the Pump Me Up: D.C. Subculture of the 1980s at the Corcoran Gallery of Art and College of Art + Design. It will take place Feb. 23-April 7 and will be the first museum exhibition to explore the thriving underground scene of Washington, D.C., during the 1980s.

The Legend of CooL “dISCo” dAn documentary film chronicles the decade D.C. was largely ignored by its President, but embraced by its own citizens.”
