CQ Roll Call Editorial Director Susan Benkelman is leaving the publication to oversee economics policy for the Washington Bureau of the WSJ.
Pssst…They’re on the prowl for her replacement.
See the internal memo. Folks –
I regret to let you know that Susan Benkelman, our editorial director, is leaving to run the economics policy coverage for the Washington bureau of the Wall Street Journal.
Susan spent the last year in her current role capping fifteen years in various editing and leadership positions within the news division. When I approached her about taking the top job, she expressed reluctance, because she feared moving away from her true passion of crafting superior stories. Fortunately for us, she proved an excellent news executive, and during the last year she led the launch of the new Roll Call, our expansion into legal news and regulatory coverage, and increasing newsroom focus on customer usage, all the while never flagging in her commitment to outstanding journalism. This added to her already stellar legacy with the company, including a successful redesign of CQ Weekly and an initiative to reconceive our health coverage. Needless to say, these achievements did not escape the notice of the broader market, which led to this new opportunity.
I will miss working with Susan, and I am grateful for her leadership and contributions, especially during this last year. I have no doubt she will have a great impact at Dow Jones and across the broad audience they serve.
Susan’s last day will be October 11. Because we have such a strong team leader the newsroom, I am confident the transition will be flawless. As we begin the search for new leadership, Anne Hoy, David Rapp, John Cranford, Peter King and John Dineen will report to me.
We will set an appropriate time and venue to toast Susan and her accomplishments, but in the meantime please join me in thanking Susan for her many contributions and congratulating her in her new role!
