Screen Shot 2014-05-07 at 16.05.11CQ Roll Call announced the launch of its annual “Taste of America” contest, and starting today, readers can vote online for their state’s signature food.

The tournament-style food competition is modeled after March Madness, and is a bracket of 64 foods, a minimum of one entry per state with two entries for the larger states. Each week, votes are tallied and winners advance to the next round, with the first round ending May 23.

Last year’s winner was the Pepperoni Roll, hailing from West Virginia. This year, we see DC with the Chili Half Smoke, Maryland with Crab Cakes, and Virginia with Ham Biscuits (really??).

The final eight state foods will be served during a reception at Nationals Ballpark prior to the Congressional Baseball Game, where the winner will be announced on June 25, 2014.

The National Beer Wholesalers Association, the National Restaurant Association, National Pork Producers Council, and the American Frozen Food Institute and the Ford Motor Company are this year’s Taste of America sponsors.
