Thought to be one of the best education reporters that CQ Roll Call has had in awhile, Lauren Smith has been named a Spencer Fellow by Columbia University. She’ll spend the 2013-2014 academic year at Columbia working on her reporting project.
Congratulations to Smith!
Anne Hoy, executive editor of CQ News, sent out the memo today.
To the newsroom:
I am happy to announce Lauren Smith has been named a Spencer Fellow in Education Reporting by Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism. Lauren will use the prestigious fellowship to explore whether competitive federal education grants, such as President Obama’s Race to the Top program, are effective tools for improving the quality of education for students and teachers. Lauren, who has covered education policy for CQ Roll Call since the spring of 2010, will spend the 2013-14 academic year at Columbia working on her reporting project. Please join me in congratulating her.
