CQ Roll Call Photog Has a Way With Tears

CQ Roll Call staff photographer Chris Maddaloni has reeled in two awards from White House News Photographers Association Eyes of History 2013 competition. One award is a first-place prize in the feature category. The other (for this award-winning picture at right) is for the “On Capitol Hill” category, where his photograph placed in the “Awards of Excellence” level.

“Chris’s photo won in the feature category and was a single image pulled from his photo story on the K-9 bomb detector dogs of Capitol Hill,” wrote Doug Graham in an email to staff. Chris spent a year following this story and produced an amazingly powerful body of work. Each image stands alone on its technical and aesthetic merit and together they tell the story from puppy to full time bomb detector K9 officers. It’s an impressive body of work that clearly shows dedication and commitment at an extremely high level.”

WaPo‘s Ricky Carioti, Marvin Joseph and Jahi Chikwendiu were also recognized with photography awards.
