Introducing Georgetown Professor Garrett Graff:
From Health Assistant Managing Editor Anne McGrath:
I’m pleased to announce that the health section will be welcoming a new writer October 29 2007–associate editor January Payne, who comes to us from a stint as editor of a weekly newsletter on on the business of healthcare, but who spent several years before that as a writer for the health section of the Washington Post. There she covered a wide range of consumer health stories, and also wrote about racial and socioeconomic health disparities. Her work appeared in numerous other sections of the paper as well, from Business to Book World. Jan grew up in Harrisburg, Pa., where she got her first taste of journalism at the Patriot-News while working on her A.A. degree at Harrisburg Area Community College. She earned her bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Maryland (Bob Grover can vouch for her abilities) and worked as an intern at USA Today, Capital News Service, and the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. She has also taught as an adjunct professor at Maryland.
From Business Assistant Managing Editor James Pethokoukis:
Then on October 29, we will be adding Kirk Shinkle as a senior editor. Kirk is currently a financial reporter in the Wall Street bureau of Investor’s Business Daily. At IBD, he’s covered everything from stocks to the financial markets to the Federal Reserve. He also will mainly be covering investing but will surely contribute his vast expertise to our business and economic coverage as well. A 1999 journalism grad from Texeas Christian University, Kirk will work out of our NYC offices until summer when he will join us here in
