A little public service announcement here…

David Gruder, a psychologist and Integrity Educator is looking for at least 30 journalists to complete his just-released Politician Integrity Rating Tool regarding each of the three leading contenders for president of the United States.

Journalists qualifying to participate meet two criteria: 1) One of their primary focus areas is the 2008 United States presidential election; and 2) They are willing and able to respond to the questions as objective journalists rather than partisan supporters.

The PIRT contains ten questions, each of which is answered using a rating scale and takes approximately ten minutes to complete. Participating journalists will have the option of receiving their own individual ratings but no rater’s individual ratings will be released to other raters, to the public or to anyone else.

When he releases the composite results, the names and organizational affiliations of the participating journalists will be listed along with each candidate’s average Politician Integrity Score and each candidate’s average score for each the ten dimensions of political integrity the PIRT evaluates.

In Memoriam: Lee Walczak

Bloomberg’s DC Bureau Chief Al Hunt sent the following notice to employees today:

I am very sad to tell you that Lee Walczak passed away last night. he fought an extraordinarily courageous two year fight against incurable cancer. his grace and presence were inspiring; only a few weeks ago he was e-mailing story ideas. he made us better professionally; he was an even better person. the details of any services will be known in a few days; will keep everyone posted. i am sure his wife, maria, would love to hear any thoughts about lee. al

Walczar was a longtime Washington bureau chief for BusinessWeek and came over to Bloomberg in 2006. He had been with BusinessWeek for at least 20 years.

Charles Babington Supports An Uninformed Electorate

The AP reporter speaks on Friday’s “Washington Week with Gwen Ifill”:

Sometimes we like to think, oh, they get a spreadsheet out of all the issues. Most voters don’t get that. Most voters probably don’t even know why they vote for someone and there’s nothing wrong with that.

What WH Reporters Did Sunday

Watch movies, apparently…

From Austin American-Statesman’s Jason Embry pool report:

President left the White House in motorcade at about 8 am for biking at Secret Service training facility near Beltsville, Md. He was joined by Secret Service agents and, possibly, unidentified guests.

Pool did not see him, but did enjoy a Godfather marathon on AMC while we waited.

Best we can tell, that’s the number of reporters the Washington Post had on the Nationals story for today’s paper (Gerald Martineal, Dave Sheinin, Daniel LeDuc, David Nakamura, Roxanne Roberts, Jonathan Mummolo, Michael Ruane, Barry Svrluga, David Fahrenthold, Steve Hendrix, Marc Fisher, Amy Argetsinger, Petula Dvorak, John McDonnell, Marissa Newhall, Michael Ruane, Philip Kennicott, Thomas Boswell, Jonathan Newton, Richard Lipskin, Preston Keres, Linda Davidson).

Also, see washingtonpost.com’s new blog, “Grounds Crew“, which is written by 15 Nationals fans (not WPNI employees) and it’s meant to cover the fan experience at the new stadium.

Forthcoming? NYT Mag Piece on Matthews

We hear that Mark Leibovich is working on a piece for the NYT magazine (very likely) on Chris Matthews (Leibo recently followed Matthews to Cleveland’s for the MSNBC debate and was also following him around the DC bureau). Does he have some good deets that justify a NYT mag piece?

Kondracke: Give Me Some O’Doul’s!

From the Washington Times:

“I like RFK better.”

That was the immediate reaction from Washington print and broadcast journalist Morton Kondracke when we bumped into him in the sprawling concourse of the newly opened Nationals Park during Saturday evening’s exhibition baseball game between the Washington Nationals and Baltimore Orioles.

Otherwise, Mr. Kondracke, who battled alcoholism during the 1980s, made it clear he had visited an untold number of beverage vendors in the sparkling new stadium — trust us, there are many dozens — and yet none served nonalcoholic beer.

“You can print this: ‘Mr. Lerner, where is the nonalcoholic beer?’ ” asked Mr. Kondracke, addressing his question to Ted Lerner, whose group of Washington-area businessmen owns the Nationals.
