We like the Muppets. We like watching the news. What we HATE is watching the Muppets become the news. This reached new levels of absurdity yesterday when Kermit the Frog invaded Washington, DC. First stop was CBS News where he joined Bob Schieffer to discuss politics. Kermit goes so far as to say he’s not ruling out running for President as a “Green Party” candidate.
Fine. Cute. Well, not even that cute. But Kermit was not done. Then he enters CNN’s Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer to awkwardly chit chat about the presidential race and calls himself an “Amphibian American.” Wolf said that he should come back to debate someone. Kermit says the perfect opponent would be Newt. Because “Newt is from the swamp.” His awkward camera appearance, lack of knowledge on the issues and bad jokes almost reached Howard Fineman levels. Almost.
Then to top it all off, Kermit hopped (sorry) over to light the National Christmas Tree with the First Family. He even read a Christmas poem with Michelle Obama. Stop ruining my childhood, Kermit! You aren’t running for President! You aren’t a political pundit! You aren’t welcome in Washington DC anymore! Anyone have a good restaurant recommendation? I need to find a good plate of frog legs.
