Examiner Opinion Columnist Breaks Late-Night News of Bin Laden’s Death

What happens when you don’t replace your White House correspondent with experienced reporters? Well, it’s late at night, news of Osama Bin Laden‘s death breaks and the Washington Examiner has to have one of its opinion columnists, Philip Klein, write the story. Klein first joined the Commentary section in March. When Julie Mason left for Politico some months ago, they replaced her well-seasoned post with two twentysomethings who split their time between the Maryland State House and the White House.

Klein knows how to write a hard news story. But in a word: odd.
