Fishbowl 5: Meet Mario De Armas
On Saturday from 2-9 PM, TLC’s Trading Spaces alum Mario De Armas is taking over an entire NW block at 15th and P St. for a festival to celebrate his new DC-based design firm, Lamby Productions.
The event will boast giveaways, DJs and a raffle for enough furniture to deck out an entire apartment (over $15,000 worth) to benefit local women’s shelter, N Street Village.
FishbowlDC caught up with the Miami native to find out about Washington style, his tastes in media and his post-TLC life in DC.
What or who is your go-to source for news?
I wake up to HLN “Morning Express” anchor Robin Meade but I like Wolf Blitzer too. I watch a lot of CNN.
Who is Washington’s most stylish journalist?
DC Magazine EIC Karen Sommer Shalett.
With what member of the news media would you most like to “trade spaces” for a day?
CNN’s Anderson Cooper
In your expert opinion, what are a few solid stores in DC for interior furnishings?
Bo Concepts in Georgetown gives good bang for the buck. A more mainstream choice with a great selection is West Elm and I like Mitchell Gold on 14th St.
I saw a video that said you were inspired by the ocean in South Beach. What inspires you in DC?
I love the history and architecture in Washington. Living here has really helped me to grow and learn and offered a new mentality. Also, President Obama has certainly inspired me. His talent to motivate and excite people is a talent that I dream of having some day.
For more Mario, meet up with the designer this Saturday at 15th and P Streets NW from 2-9PM or check out the site for Lamby Productions here.
