Florida Joins The Atlantic

We  know what you’re thinking… “When was the Sunshine State not part of the Atlantic?  Those idiots at FishbowlDC need a good geography lesson.”  But not so fast.  We’re talking about Richard Florida, the economist, urban studies theorist, and author of “The Rise of the Creative Class.” Next month, he’ll be joining The Atlantic as a senior editor.

Already frequent contributor to TheAtlantic.com, in his new role Florida will focus his attention on cities in America and across the world and the vital role they play in economic growth and prosperity as well as personal happiness and well-being.  His work will appear across all platforms—digital, print and events.

Florida has been named one of Esquire’s ‘Best and Brightest’ and just yesterday, TIME Magazine named Richard one of 140 Twitter feeds to follow. He is the founder of  the Creative Class Group, Director of the Martin Prosperity Institute and Professor of Business and Creativity at the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto. Previously, Florida held professorships at Carnegie Mellon University,  and George Mason University, and was a  visiting professor at Harvard and MIT, and a visiting fellow of the Brookings Institution. Florida earned his Bachelor’s degree from Rutgers College and his Ph.D. from Columbia University.
