Hotline Interviews Ari Shapiro

Some highlights from Hotline’s Friday Feature with NPR’s Department of Justice reporter Ari Shapiro:

    What was your first job?

Besides babysitting? I was a barista at Starbucks before it became a global force of nature. I started the summer they introduced the frappuccino.

What’s your most embarrassing on-the-job moment? (Or as embarrassing as you’d like to reveal?)

I was an Editorial Assistant on “Morning Edition.” Marvin Kalb came in to record a commentary, and I was asked to coach him. Being a young ignorant nobody, I didn’t know Marvin Kalb from Adam. So I gave him tips on his delivery, just like any other commentator. He handled it gracefully and generously. One of my colleagues said it was as though I’d given batting tips to Babe Ruth.

What would be your last meal — ever?

    Brunch.
