Hotline Turns 18, Looks Ahead Digitally
As former CNN Political Guru John Mercurio started work at the Watergate today, National Journal’s Hotline wished itself a very happy 18th birthday, and offered some clues as to its future vision:
It’s been five days since The Hotline registered with our draft board and, more importantly, registered to vote. That’s right, we turned 18.
– No matter how one measures time, 18 years is a long time. It’s not just “practically” a generation, it is a generation. (We’re bracing ourselves next summer for our first intern born after the first issue of The Hotline).
– We begin this 18th year of publication in as strong of a position as ever. The publication you’ve come to trust as the place to get wisdom before it’s conventional plans to continue to expand its scope without forgetting its roots.
– To begin that effort, we’ve assembled some of the smartest and savviest political minds DC has to offer. From our newest hires, including former CNN political editor John Mercurio and former ABC News producer Marc Ambinder, to our veterans led by Danielle Jones, The Hotline promises to keep doing the voodoo that we do and then some. Whether it’s on the web, on your PDA, on your webTV or even on your IPod, The Hotline’s next 18 years will be something to watch. — The Editors
